John Waugh, Photographic Images
John Waugh is no stranger to the back of a camera. He built his first darkroom some 40 years ago. John has been working in numerous venues of his craft ever since.
“I came to auto sports by coincidence. I was asked to shoot Liz Halliday when she entered the Grand Am Series. The technique just seemed to come naturally”. At the time he was shooting FIS World Cup ski racing in Colorado where John and his family make their home, so the segue into auto sports seemed logical. The two forms of racing are quite similar in that the driver and the skier are traveling extremely fast towards and then away from the photographer with pans and stop action combined with tough setups in changing weather conditions. The color and pageantry of the events makes a great backdrop for all the action.
John has covered the American Le Mans Series, The 24 hours of Le Mans, Grand Am, Champ Car, IRL, Toyota Atlantic and various club events. He loves to immerse himself within a team or series for an extended period of time and strives to illustrate the whole story in a photographic narrative, from backstage to the podium.
John is currently splitting his time between finishing a book project, covering the American Le Mans Series, (the dynamic driver Liz Halliday in particular) and continuing coverage of action sports like cycling and skiing in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region.
John work includes commercial, action sports, architectural, documentary and fine art photography.
His images are represented in various galleries, corporate exhibits and private collections as well as numerous commercial sites and publications through out the United States and Europe.
